Emery machine from an old engine

If there is no money to purchase a good factory emery for a garage or a home workshop, then temporarily you can do with a homemade unit. Any old electric motor is suitable as a drive.

However, it is desirable to use a belt drive - in order to maintain a higher efficiency. And the noise during the operation of the machine will be much less than with a direct connection. To do this, on a lathe, it will be necessary to manufacture a driven shaft from a steel blank with a diameter of 40 mm.

We clamp the workpiece in the lathe cartridge and grind the part of the required shape. Also, for the manufacture of an emery machine, two bearings, two cages made of a round pipe with a diameter of 57 mm, washers and fasteners will be required.

The main stages of work

Bearings must be pressed onto the machined shaft from two sides, cages are mounted on top, which are then welded to two plates. At the next stage of work, we proceed to the manufacture of the frame for this entire structure. We cut the profile pipes to size and weld a rectangular base from them.

Plates with bearings and a shaft are screwed to this base with bolts, on which grinding wheels are then attached. Further, from the pieces of the profile pipe, it is necessary to weld the frame under the electric motor, which is attached to a small area.

At the last stage, we paint all the structural elements, assemble and fasten to the wall. Then we connect the motor shaft with the driven shaft using a belt. Now the home-made emery machine is completely ready for work.
