With the help of a homemade drill, you can drill deep holes of large diameter in various wooden blanks. To make such a drill, you will need a steel pipe, the diameter of which is slightly less than the diameter of the hole itself.

If, for example, you need to drill a hole of 45 mm, then you need to use a pipe with a diameter of approximately 43 mm. Moreover, the length of the pipe should be greater than the depth of the hole. Also, for this homemade product you will need a piece of reinforcement or a steel rod of circular cross section, which will be clamped in the drill chuck (the larger the diameter, the better).
It is also necessary to cut a piece of a square plate that will completely overlap the diameter of the pipe. Having prepared all the materials, you can proceed directly to the manufacture of the drill.

The main stages of work

First you need to cut a circle from a square piece of metal using a grinder that will match the diameter of the pipe (in this case, it's 43 mm). Then it must be cleaned and welded to one of the ends of the steel pipe.

After that, in the center of the welded washer, it is necessary to drill a hole for the diameter of a round bar with a drill of 10 mm, which then also needs to be welded. You will also need to drill two more holes (in line with the center) with a diameter of approximately 7 mm.

Next, at the opposite end of the pipe, you need to cut out the "working" teeth, which will drill the wooden workpieces. In this way, you can make a large diameter drill of your own length with your own hands. See the step-by-step process in the video on our website.
