New Year is coming soon, before you blink, and here it is! It's time to prepare Christmas gifts for loved ones and friends. On these general holidays, I try not to buy gifts, but always do something with my own hands. Thanks to this, I mastered several different types of creativity. Today I will use my sewing skills and try to create a sofa pillow-dumok.
Even a novice dressmaker can handle such a simple product as a pillowcase. And already experienced and even more so! I will make a pillow with the symbol of next year - a dog. Thus, the pillow will immediately turn into a New Year's souvenir. If you need a lot of gifts, you can sew several such thought pads of different colors at once, for example.

I buy fabrics when there is money and opportunity, fold them, and if necessary, just get them out of the bins. So now, rummaging there, I found various pieces of furniture fabric. This is the most suitable material for a sofa cushion. It has many advantages:
  • it does not wear out for a long time and does not fade;
  • not wrinkled;
  • gets a little dirty;
  • it is well washed and cleaned.
    So, I prepared for sewing pillows:
  • furniture velor (I buy a flap in a furniture fabric store, it is much cheaper than a meter fabric) for a beige base;
  • small pieces of furniture fabric in different colors for application;
  • pieces of leatherette white (2 by 2 cm) and black (5 by 5 cm);
  • secret zipper to the color of the main fabric 50 cm long;
  • holofiber (250-300 grams per pillow is enough);
  • pencil, fountain pen, ruler, glue stick, needles for chipping;
  • sewing machine, thread, scissors.

I decided to make the application myself. To do this, I found a simple picture on the Internet, enlarged it using a standard program on a computer and printed it. Separate sheets glued and cut out a dog.
I divide the resulting pattern into pieces.
For the application, I choose fabrics that do not crumble. Having attached pieces of the picture to the wrong side of the fabric, I circle them with a fountain pen and cut them out. I use fabrics of different colors. I lay the pattern face down.

Since I will stuff the pillow myself, then I can choose its size arbitrary. If you have ready-made pillows and want to sew pillowcases on them, measure the sides of the pillows and make allowances for the seams at least 1 cm on each side.
From the pieces of beige velor I cut a 50 by 50 cm square (this will be the front side of the pillow) and two 50 by 36 cm and 50 by 16 rectangles (this is for the back side, I just had pieces of the right size). I should have two identical squares, so I added 1 cm to the seam for each short side of the rectangles.

Having folded two rectangles “facing” each other, I made seams along the long side from both edges to a length of 5-6 cm. I sewed a zipper into the resulting groove. This will be the back side of my dummy. I prepared the basis, I proceed to the most interesting thing - making the application.
I lay out the cut-out parts of the dog on the prepared square in order to find out how everything will look. From the leatherette arbitrarily (focusing on the picture) I cut the nose and eyes. Before sewing, I glue all parts of the applique for fixing with glue-pencil. So the parts do not move when sewing.

I sew the application in stages. I sew the body of the dog with the head in the usual seam on a typewriter. I put the nose on the dog’s face, sew it on. With a regular seam in several lines, I make a jaw of black thread, having previously drawn it with a pencil or chalk. Sew and eyes.
When the dog’s face is ready, I attach the remaining parts: ears, paws, bowl.

Here is a drawing on the blank. When everything is sewn, I fold it with the front sides inside the workpiece with the applique and with the lock, cleave them with needles. Stitching around the perimeter. I cut the corners so that when turning out they are clear.

I turn out the pillowcase. Again, prick off with needles and, stepping back from the edge of 1.5 cm, stitching around the perimeter for greater decorativeness.
That's it, my pillowcase is ready, I stuff it with holofiber. It is possible to use foam rubber for filling (cut it into small pieces), synthetic winterizer, feather.

This is such a New Year's gift for me. There is still enough time before the holiday, you can sew everyone such charming doggies.
