Sooner or later, in any apartment comes the time for repair. For its holding, construction stores offer a huge selection of finishing materials. Including on sale there are decorative bricks for every taste. Only now the price for them "bites". For budget repairs, this option is definitely not suitable. What to do if you want to make an apartment interesting and stylish for little money, is it possible to make inexpensive decorative bricks with your own hands?
Russian craftsmen are fiction to fiction. There is a way to decorate the interior with a brick finish using regular gypsum plaster. It turns out very inexpensively and very original. Moreover, the size of the bricks, their shape and texture can be made any. Using this simple technology, you can perfectly mask the protruding beams, stylishly design doorways, hide bumps and wall defects.
For work you will need:
- gypsum plaster;
- water;
- Master OK;
- putty knife;
- wand;
- rags.
First you need to decide which section of the wall will be decorated, and what shape and size need bricks. The first time is to try on a small surface.
Preparing the wall for applying plaster.
Before decorating the wall with home-made decorative bricks, standard work is carried out to prepare the surface for applying gypsum plaster. The wall is freed from the old finish (wallpaper, paint, tiles, etc.), all exfoliating fragments are removed. There is no need to level the surface, because the bricks will well mask even a significant roughness of the walls. The main thing is that the wall is clean and dry. After cleaning, the surface is impregnated with a primer.
Main job.
Gypsum plaster is diluted to the consistency of a not too steep dough. The work is carried out in small fragments, approximately 0.5 square meters. meter. A plaster layer 1 cm thick is applied to the wall with a trowel. The surface is slightly smoothed with a spatula (it is important not to overdo it, because the stone texture should be slightly uneven). After that, the creative part of the work begins - with the help of a stick, a "brick-like" drawing is applied. To do this, first two horizontal lines are drawn, which will indicate a series of brickwork. Then, in vertical lines, this row is divided into individual bricks.
The thickness of the stick is selected depending on what distance between the bricks is planned. If the gap is large, you can draw with your own finger.
Having finished drawing one fragment, go to the next section and again all the steps described above are repeated.
The stage of finishing the bricks.
When all the necessary bricks have been painted, let the plaster dry. Dry areas of "brickwork" are first processed with a spatula. With this tool, large irregularities are removed and the seams are cleaned. Then the entire surface is intensively cleaned with a piece of rags (or with an ordinary cotton glove), so fine roughness is smoothed.
It remains only to cover the bricks with a primer designed for gypsum plaster, and paint the finished brick wall in the desired color.
To get a more natural effect, you need to use paint in several shades. First, the main color is applied to the entire surface, then strokes of a darker or lighter shade are added with a dry brush.

Of course, store bricks are good, they look expensive and stylish. But the method described here has the full right to exist. After all, it allows, using very inexpensive materials, to achieve an interesting decorative effect. It takes only a little practice, and a real brick wall will delight its owners, even in economy-class housing.
