Bike chains come with and without locks. To disconnect a bicycle chain without a lock, you need to squeeze the pin out of the link. Please note: just squeeze out, not knock out. If you knock out the axis of the link with a hammer, the joint may be deformed.

To separate the bike chain, it is better to use a special tool - squeeze. You can buy it in the store or do it yourself. The second option is the most optimal, especially since the manufacturing process of this device does not take much time.

How to make a squeeze for a bike chain yourself

To make a home-made squeeze, you will need a 15 mm long hairpin segment, a drill tail, a steel corner, a pair of nuts and four self-tapping screws for attaching to a table or other work surface.

In the end part of the stud in the center, make a mark with a core and drill a hole. We cut the shank from a drill of a suitable diameter, insert a segment into the hairpin, and then fix it with glue. Next, cut a piece of steel corner and weld two nuts to its inner side.

It is also necessary to drill four holes for mounting. Then proceed to the assembly of the entire structure. We attach a corner to the table or wooden bar on the screws. We press the bicycle chain to one of the welded nuts, then screw the pin into the “leading” nut and twist it all the way, gradually squeezing the pin out of the chain link.

The stud itself is inserted into the chuck of an electric drill or screwdriver, which greatly facilitates the work. Using this tool is very simple and most importantly - convenient. Moreover, you can make a squeeze to disconnect the bicycle chain with your own hands from improvised materials.
