One of the most commonly used and popular tools in the garage is a ratchet for heads, with which car owners easily unscrew nuts and bolts located in hard-to-reach places (for example, when you need to remove the seat in the cabin or change the battery).

The main advantage of the ratchet wrench is the ability to unscrew even those bolts and nuts that have rusted. And in most cases it is much more convenient to work with a rattle than with an open-end or open-end wrench. Here are just factory-made ratchet keys cost a lot of money, so this tool can be done with your own hands.

To make a powerful ratchet for heads, the following materials will be required: a steel bar with a diameter of 16-18 mm, as well as a metal strip 6 mm thick and 50 mm wide. From the main tool for work, you will need a welding machine and an angle grinder.

The main stages of work

We cut off two identical segments of a length of 35 cm from the metal strip with a grinder. We make the marking and cut out from them two blanks in the form of a spatula in which we drill a hole with a diameter of 18 mm with a step drill for metal. We cut a small piece of 6 cm long from the steel bar, grind one end on an emery onto a cone.

From the strip we cut a round washer with a grinder, and then we make a gear “wheel” with oblique teeth out of it. We put it on a piece of steel bar and weld it. Then we collect the entire tool. The detailed process of making homemade ratchets for heads can be seen in the video on the site.
