If scraps of old boards are lying around idle in a workshop, find a worthy application for them - for example, you can make a solid wooden box, which is useful on the farm for storing various rubbish, and it will be convenient for transporting valuable goods. If there are no hinges for the cover, then they can also be made independently from scraps of metal.

Preparatory work

First of all, it is necessary to sort out the boards and bars, choose the most suitable, and then saw them in size - based on the dimensions of the box. You can cut it by hand, but since you need a lot of workpieces, it is better to use a miter saw. It is not necessary to plan and grind the boards, but you can if you wish.

Wooden box assembly

When all the blanks are sawn, we proceed to the assembly of the box - for this we need carpentry glue and nails (you can use self-tapping screws). First, we collect two side walls, then we pin the bottom and the two remaining side walls. When the box is knocked together, you can begin to manufacture the lid.

Making metal loops

To make a strong hinge for the lid of the box (in this case we are talking about overhead hinges), two steel strips (narrow and wide) will be required, from which two identical segments must be cut. We heat the workpieces red-hot and bend one side - we make the so-called “fist” loop.

In wide strips, we cut out a small rectangular slot for connecting to the second part of the hinge joint with a grinder, and then we need to drill two holes in each half for fastening to the box (it is best to use bolts with nuts). At the last stage, we install forged hinges, make side handles from a rope and a wooden box from old boards is ready! If desired, it can be painted.
