With the help of this simple home-made tool, the working element of which is a stretched sanding belt, it is possible to give different shapes to wooden blanks, as well as to peel and clean the surfaces of materials of different degrees of hardness.
By its design, the tool resembles an ordinary hand hacksaw, but instead of a saw blade, a strip of sandpaper of the required length is stretched.
You can make such a homemade device yourself from affordable and, most importantly, inexpensive materials. In this case, only parts that are handmade from wood are used.
The main stages of work
The first step is to make a saw handle and a sanding belt tension unit. From a board or plywood, we cut out blanks of a suitable shape, and then we process them manually using an ordinary chisel, as well as various files on wood.
In the handle and the block of tension of the sanding belt, which is a rectangular block, it is necessary to drill holes and cut the threads into them using a special tap on wood.
You will also need to make a round stick and cut the threads around the edges - it will connect the saw handle and the sanding belt tension unit. Two hex nuts, which are also made of wood, are used as fasteners.
When all the elements are ready, grind them and cover them with either mineral oil or varnish. In the block and the handle, you also need to make grooves for installing sandpaper. Then it remains only to collect all this. For a step-by-step process of manufacturing a manual grinding “hacksaw”, see the video on the website.
