Replacing cast iron with plastic in the bathroom is not an easy job. Especially when you need to remove the sewer tee from the socket of a cast-iron pipe.

Back in Soviet times, pipes made of cast iron in the bathroom were often not only covered with tow, but also filled with liquid sulfur. In this case, it’s unlikely you can do without an autogen and gas mask.

If you used ordinary cement caulking, then there is one simple way how to remove the sewer tee from the socket of a cast-iron pipe. In principle, the method is simple and complex at the same time.

On the one hand, you do not need to use autogen, welding or grinder. On the other hand - you still have to make a lot of effort.

The main stages of work

The first step is to dismantle the toilet. Before you take it out of the bathroom, drain the water! Then with a hammer you need to loosen the sewer tee itself. However, it is extremely important to be careful not to crack the central tee made of cast iron when caulking.

Having loosened the tee, then you can try to twist it with your hands. If he does not give in, then you need to knock his hammers a little more on all sides. This is the most time-consuming part of the work, and how much time is required is definitely hard to say.
