Shiloh is a common helper used by cutters, shoemakers, joiners, carpenters. The tool may differ in shape, size, design. In this review, we will consider how to make a powerful awl from a drill with a handle made of epoxy with your own hands.

The filler for the epoxy will be cork powder. Then we take a drill on concrete, clamp it in a vice and cut off the tip. Gently grind to give the necessary shape, periodically lower it into water for cooling. Otherwise, when overheated, the drill will lose hardening.

Grind it, then measure the shank. We take a brass plug as a cap, fix it in a vise, mark the center and make a hole of the required diameter. Grind it and grind it.

The main stages of work

To make a handle mold, you need the lower half of the plastic toy egg and the upper part of the plastic bottle. For easy discharge, grease the mold with solid oil. We glue the parts to each other and fix the tape. We fix the cap on the drill.

We take a wooden stick from ice cream and drill a hole in it equal in diameter to the drill. We put this stick on the drill, check the depth of entry into the form and glue it. Next, install the drill in the mold and weigh the required amount of epoxy. We dilute the resin in a ratio of 10/1 and mix thoroughly.

Then we add cork powder, mix again and fill in the form for the handle with the resulting dense composition. If the solution turned out to be thick, for good shrinkage, you need to knock the form on the table. We also fill the cap with the mixture. In a half-filled form, install a drill.

After hardening, remove the form. Grind the handle to the required size. Grind it and polish it. Spread with shine machine oil. The awl is ready. The handle itself was very pleasant to the touch and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.
