Very often, fum tape is used to seal threaded connections on water pipes in a private house and apartment. However, after some time you have to face the fact that a leak appears at the junction.

Therefore, experienced plumbers usually recommend not using fum tape, but a more reliable and time-tested material - tow. Please note that in this case we are talking about heating systems.

To make a high-quality and most importantly - tight threaded connection, you will need not only tow, but also another "secret" component. This is silicone. And it is desirable that it be of good quality.

The main stages of work

The first thing you need to do is screw the thread onto the thread. And you need to wind the tow strictly in the direction of rotation of the fitting so that the "hairs" do not unwind when twisted.

After the tow is wound on the thread, it is necessary to apply silicone to it. It condenses flax, and protects it from decay. You can also use a special sealing paste (it is just designed for such work).

Then you can proceed directly to the assembly of the threaded connection itself. First you need to twist to the maximum by hand, and then with a key. Excess silicone, which is squeezed out while twisting, will need to be wiped. Such a connection will serve faithfully for many years.
