From an old worn-out chisel for a punch, you can make a tool for a welder with your own hands - a convenient hammer with a wooden handle that can be used to beat off slag and other operations.
In addition, you will need: a small piece of hexagon with a diameter of 12 mm, a metal strip 4 mm thick and 30 mm wide, as well as a small section of the board, three bolts and M6 nuts.
First of all, you need to measure 150 mm from the working edge of the chisel, and cut off the excess part with the shank. With the help of a grinder, the master gives the place of the cut a conical shape: the depth of the cone is 3 cm.
Then, a workpiece 60 mm long is cut from the hexagon, and a piece 140 mm long is cut from the metal strip.
The main stages of work
At the end of the hexagonal workpiece, a cut is made of a width of 4 mm and a depth of 20 mm. The strip should fit tightly into the cut. The joints are welded and cleaned.
In the middle of the chisel, a segment of a hexagon (perpendicular) is welded to a place previously prepared for welding.
Next, on a metal strip from two sides, it is necessary to attach two wooden billets (pads on the handle) and fix it with a clamp. They need to drill three holes of 6 mm.
In both workpieces, sweats are made under the heads of bolts and nuts. After assembly, the excess is cut off. The handle is rounded.
From a non-working chisel, a convenient and durable welder hammer was obtained. With the help of such a hammer, the slag beats quickly and cleanly at any welds.
