What is needed
It is necessary to prepare for the main filler potato starch, as adhesives ordinary PVA glue, PVA carpentry glue and Titan glue. To knead the mass, you need to have a small plastic container, you can have a cup. The experiments are carried out using pliers, needle files and a drilling machine.
Operating procedure
On the Internet there are many different recipes for making plastic (cold porcelain), it is difficult to understand which one is better. It is better to compare in practice, which is why we will prepare the three most common compounds.
For convenience, pour starch from the pack into a container of the appropriate volume.
Pour 2-3 teaspoons of starch into a small plastic cup to prepare the first batch, add silent simple PVA glue to it.
You don’t need to pour a lot right away, it's better to add as needed.
Start mixing with a teaspoon, the composition should be uniform. Glue or starch is added as needed. As the spoon thickens, it becomes more difficult to work, remove the mass from the container and continue stirring with your fingers.
The mass should be the same as the dumplings dough. Roll out a pancake from it about 5 mm thick and leave it on the table. After each batch, do not forget to wash your hands, water-based adhesives are made on water and are easily removed.
The same mixture should be prepared using PVA wood glue. Differences will already appear - the mass is more rigid, rolling it with a thin layer is a little more difficult.
Now mix the starch with the water-insoluble Titanium. The process is no different from the above.
All samples should be thick, too soft as they dry, crack due to shrinkage. In our example, such a drawback was found only in plastic with ordinary PVA glue, the rest dried without cracks.
Make another lozenge out of the remaining starch, but now add water to it. She will also be needed for experience. After 4 hours, the pancakes have not yet been salted, leave them for three days.
Test
First, you should check the materials for hardness, for this you should slightly cut them with a file.
The hardness of plastic with PVA is normal, the cake is sawn perfectly and does not crumble. The starch on the water could not stand it, immediately began to crumble.
The variant with wood glue also has excellent hardness and can be processed without problems.
The option with glue "Titan" lends itself to processing, is almost no different from two with PVA adhesives.
Hole Drilling - Plastic Test
The sample is drilled on water without any effort, no chips, only dust.
All the rest are plastic, swirling chips appear. The highest hardness and ductility of the sample with wood glue, chips are wound on a drill.
Now you should check the samples for bending resistance.
Work with pliers, in turn bend all the cakes. A sample on water breaks very easily, as you would expect.
A little more effort should be applied when breaking a sample with PVA, but the parameters are insufficient. The reason is a significant number of microcracks throughout the volume.
The sample with Titanium breaks with effort, at the fracture the structure resembles natural porcelain. Plastic is lightweight and durable, quite suitable for use.
The hardest thing to break is a cake made of wood glue.
As studies have shown, the best recommended sample with carpentry glue, in second place with a titanium filler. But it must be noted that it takes more time to completely harden the wood glue. It is not recommended to prepare plastic for crafts from ordinary PVA glue.
Conclusion
In all physical parameters, the first place is confidently taken by the composition with PVA carpentry glue, but the material has a yellowish tint, which is not always convenient. If you need to have a solid white, it is recommended to use PVA glue with a plasticizer as a binder. Starch does not have to be potato; corn can also be used. Despite the fact that these are elementary tests, the result can be taken into account.
